Iran Vowed to Retaliate Against Gulf Energy Sites
March 18, 2026—The Israeli military struck the world’s largest natural gas field, the South Pars Field, which is shared between Iran and Qatar. Two senior Israeli officials confirmed responsibility for the strike, Axios reported. President Donald Trump posted early today on his family-owned Truth Social that “Remember, for all of those absolute “fools” out there, Iran is considered, by everyone, to be the NUMBER ONE STATE SPONSOR OF TERROR. We are rapidly putting them out of business!”
It comes amid the “largest supply disruption” of the global oil market in history, according to the International Energy Agency. The price of oil jumped to $108.8 a barrel (Brent) and $99 (WTI).
Iran vowed via the Tasmin News Agency, a semi-official outlet associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corpos, to retaliate against oil and gas facilities in the Gulf region, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar.
The escalation comes on the 19th day of the US-Israel-Iran war.
Qatar Calls Strike ‘Dangerous and Irresponsible’
The gas field is divided into Iran’s South Park and Qatar’s North Field. Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari called the strikes “dangerous and irresponsible. He wrote on X:
“The Israeli targeting of facilities linked to Iran’s South Pars field, an extension of Qatar’s North Field, is a dangerous & irresponsible step amid the current military escalation in the region. Targeting energy infrastructure constitutes a threat to global energy security, as well as to the peoples of the region & its environment. We reiterate, as we have repeatedly emphasized, the necessity of avoiding the targeting of vital facilities. We call on all parties to exercise restraint, adhere to international law, & work toward de-escalation in a manner that preserves the security & stability of the region.”
Trump Lashes Out
Trump, meanwhile, lashed out at countries that refused to get involved with securing navigation through the Strait of Hormuz during the war.
He posted, “I wonder what would happen if we “finished off” what’s left of the Iranian Terror State, and let the Countries that use it, we don’t, be responsible for the so called “Strait?” That would get some of our non-responsive “Allies” in gear, and fast!!! President DJT”
